Local walks - improving health and fitness in your Community.
East Devon Walk This Way is a scheme that has been introduced in East Devon to encourage people of all ages including those with health and mobility problems, and those recovering from illness, to walk for their health.
These walks are led by qualified volunteer walk leaders, who have undergone the National Walking for Health training, as well as training in First Aid & Resuscitation.
These walks are a mixture of town and country walks and are aimed at those who are doing very little or no exercise at the moment, but who would like to become more active. The walks are between 1 and 3 miles, and are graded for difficulty.
Our walks
All walks start at 10.30am prompt, please arrive at 10.15am to allow time for registration.
Some walks are Countryside walks. The route depends on weather conditions underfoot on the day and an alternative route will be taken if conditions are not considered suitable. Sensible walking shoes or trainers MUST be worn.
Exmouth: Every Tuesday and Saturday at 10.15am from Manor Gardens. (Phone for programme).
Honiton, Ottery St Mary & Sidmouth: Every Wednesday at 10.15am (Phone for programme)
These walks are FREE and all are welcome, all we ask is that participants bring enough change to join us for tea/coffee afterwards, if they so wish.
We now have over 30 trained volunteer walk leaders. If you would like to become involved in this exciting scheme please contact Andrew Dare on 01404 814317.
Events
On Monday 24th May we held a ‘Walk & Lunch’ for 30 volunteer walk leaders and managers at the Otter Inn, Colaton Raleigh to show our appreciation of their work so far. It was a gloriously sunny day and everyone was in high spirits with many photos being taken. After the meal water bottles for the walk leaders and water proof jackets for the managers were presented as a small token of our gratitude for their continued dedication in making this scheme a success. The day was a great triumph and I look forward to organising the next one.
