Last updated 03 August 2008

Our walks

Worthing: Walking To Health Scheme (Established in 2001)

Young or old, walking is for everyone. It doesn't cost the earth to start and you don't need fancy equipment (or even a dog) and it's a great way to get healthy and stay healthy.

In no time you will find that by walking regularly you will be more energized, lose weight, improve your balance and co-ordination, and sleep better. By taking care of yourself you can reduce the risk of major conditions like heart disease, stroke, Osteoporosis and cancer.

Independent Health Walk Groups have been set up in the Broadwater, Durrington and Heene areas of the town. Details are available on the internet, Click
HERE or leaflets are available from Leisure Development.

You will be very welcome at any of the groups and as well as all the general benefits the support and friendship of the group will enrich your overall enjoyment.

Everyday shoes or trainers are fine to wear just be aware of the weather conditions and that goes for clothing too.

In May 2003 the Promenade to Health was opened by The Mayor of Worthing. It is a measured route which runs along the seafront from adjacent to Brooklands Park in the east to the Borough's western boundary in Ferring. It is about 5 miles long and there is a marker at each mile. A measured route provides an excellent way for somebody to measure their progress either in terms of the distance covered or the time taken to do a specific distance (e.g. a mile). Leaflets about the route are available from Leisure Development (01903 221120) and there is an information board about it on the wall of The Beach Office.
