An exciting walking/cycling project has been launched for the Burnley/Padiham/Hapton areas. The project is called ‘Active Spaces – Burnley’, the project office is based at St Peters Centre, Burnley. The project will be working in partnership with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, NHS, PCT and Burnley Council.

Our walks

All walks are graded for different folks A = Easy, B = Moderate, C = Strenuous.

All walks vary in length.  People of all ages and abilities are welcome.

Please contact Active Spaces 01282 452381 if you are interested in walking at different times/start venues, we can organise something for your specific needs. Volunteers are always wanted, if you wish to help in any way please get in touch. Grab that ‘feel good factor’ come and join us.

Monday - Central Methodist Church, Padiham at 13.30, for a local walk, class: A or B, walk for ½ hour-2 hours

Monday – Stoneyholme Nursery Walk/ Daneshouse Community Centre, meet at the nursery for 09.30 or alternatively meet at 9.20 at Daneshouse Community Centre. Walk tailored to meet attendees, minimum ½ hour, maximum 2hrs walk. Pushchairs welcome. Class A, B, C.

Tuesday – Fitness walk meet at Thursby Surgery on Browhead Road for an one hour walk. Pushchair friendly. Class A.

Wednesday Walk – Various locations, changed weekly, see Friday edition of Burnley Express, Over the Hills section, under Active Spaces or telephone the office, number below. Meet at St Peters Centre for 09.30. Alternatively, meet at venue start car park for 10.00.Transport available, dependent on availability, £2 per person. Wednesday walks usually split into three graded groups with everyone meeting at the finish, dependent on attendees and Walk Leaders. If available, café/brew break will be included dependent on venue. Please bring money for a brew etc.

Wednesday Walk – Meet at Old Colne Road Library for 14.00.  Lose a little weight, free sessions. Class A

Thursday Walk – Meet at Meadowbank Centre for 10.00. A hours easy wheelchair/oushchair friendly walk to local beauty spots. Class A.

Friday - Towneley Park Walk - Meet at the end of the upper car park to the right hand side of Towneley Hall, nest to the carved Offshoots sign, for 13.00. Easy, walk. Kick the weekend off on the right foot. De-stress, meet new people. Walk lasts approx one hour.

Lancashire Wildlife Trust Walks 2010

A programme of local, Burnley walks, contact Kim Coverdale for more details: 01282 704605. Walks are easy to moderate, some uphill climbs. Duration of walks from one hour. Wildlife/wild plant spotting opportunities walk with an expert, all for free! 

Do you want to lose a little weight; do you want to feel fitter? Come and join one of our fitness walks. Walks run at various times throughout the week. Pedometers available for a small deposit. Free sessions held from Old Colne Library, Colne Road or bespoke sessions organised for your group.Contact James Kenyon on 01282 452381 or e-mail: james.kenyon@groundwork.org.uk.

Walk classes: A – Easy, flat. B – moderate, some stiles and gradients; C – strenuous longer walks with stiles & gradients. Starting point varies each week. For Timetable see Tuesday’s edition of the Burnley Express, in the Society Notes section; under Active Spaces. No need to pre-book, just turn up.

Come and join us. See 'Active Spaces Rossendale' for walks organised by the same team. All walks are usually within the Lancashire area. See beautiful Lancashire from a different perspective, hear interesting historical facts, and learn about local legends and wizardry.
