North Tyneside: Getting Active Walks - North East

Our walks

There are a number of weekly walks taking place in North Tyneside of varying lengths.

Monday 10.30 am
Meet at the Parks Sports Centre, Howdon Road, North Shields. Walk length: 0.5 - 2.5 miles

Tuesday 9.30am onwards (every two weeks), Tynemouth Pool, North Shields, Tyne and Wear. Walk length: 0.5 - 5 miles. Walk location changes (bus to various venues) so accessibility varies.

Tuesday 10am - 12noon (2nd and 4th Tuesday each month), White Swan Centre, Killingworth. Walk length: 0.5 - 5 miles. Second Friday of month is a bus trip to a slightly longer walk so route accessibility varies.
Wednesday 1.30 - 3.30pm
Meet at Dudley People's Centre, Weetslade Road, Dudley. Walk length: 0.5 - 4 miles. Some rural routes which are inaccessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs

Wednesday 12.30 - 1.15pm, Oxford Centre, Longbenton. Walk length: 0.5 - 2.5 miles

Wednesday 12noon onwards, Saint Aiden's Community Centre, North Shields, Tyne and Wear. Walk length: 0.5 - 2.5 miles

Thursday 2 - 3pm Battlehill Community Centre, Battlehill, Wallsend, Tyne and Wear. Walk length: 0.5 - 3 miles

Details of walks

*Working towards 1-Heart Accreditation
*It is a grant aided scheme
*Social element at the weekly walks - the walkers stay for coffee/tea
*The walks are all led by trained Volunteer Walk Leaders
*The walks are closely linked to Northumbria NHS Healthcare Trusts' 'Healthy Hearts' scheme and are given as an option to Cardiac Rehabilitation patients following Phase 3 rehabilitation and to Phase 4 GP Referral patients.
*The walks are open to walkers of all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult)
*Dogs are welcome
*Self-led maps are in production for 6 of the walks
*The walks are suitable for beginners as there is a front and back leader at each of the walks
* Many of the walks are accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs
* All walks are led by at least two qualified walk leaders
*We have held a number of themed walks for the various walk groups to attend including ˜Winter Twigs' and ˜Mulled wine and Wellies' Walks, as well as walks in Craster and a large walk in aid of the Tsunami Relief appeal.
